Before long, everyone else will see Emma Stone the same way Woody Allen does. At least, that’s what the 79-year-old actor-director told People.
While working with Emma Stone on the set of Irrational Man and Magic in the Moonlight, the 26-year-old Stone taught Allen many things — including how to send text messages, which, according to Vanity Fair, was a big step for the director who has gone on record with his aversion to technology.
While Allen may or may not be grateful that Stone taught him how to send text messages, Emma’s technological prowess has little to do with the reasons why Allen believes Stone will be the next big thing in Hollywood.
Instead, Allen told People that Emma Stone‘s success will come from her allure and her versatility.
“Her allure is everything: She’s beautiful, she’s bright, she’s gifted, she’s sexy, she’s intelligent, she can do comedy, she can do serious things, she sings, she dances, she’s a pleasure to work with.… I think (Emma Stone is) going to be the biggest female star in America over the next couple years. (Emma is) phenomenal.”
Emma Stone has seen her fair share of controversy this year after she was criticized for playing an Asian-American woman in Aloha. Stone recently opened up and spoke about the incident, gracefully acknowledging that whitewashing — the act for which she was criticized — has a long and heinous history in the United States.
“I’ve learned on a macro level about the insane history of whitewashing in Hollywood and how prevalent the problem truly is. It’s ignited a conversation that’s very important,” Stone said during an interview with an Australian news outlet.
Stone’s grace is part of what leads Allen to conclude that Stone will be so popular in coming years. Allen told People that he enjoys working with Emma and that he hopes he gets to work with Stone more in the future.
“It’s just a pleasure to, you know, you come in in the morning at 7:30 on the set, and there’s Emma Stone: Your heart gets a little boost of adrenaline.…She’s not in my next film. But if I had anything that was right for her – and she was not doing another film at the time, she was available – I’d certainly hope that she would do it.”
