Rumer Willis Cast As Roxy Hart In ‘Chicago’ On Broadway

Rumer Willis is going to have her name in lights! The recent Dancing with the Stars champ will be appearing on Broadway — briefly — in the role of Roxie Hart in the revival of Chicago.

As Us Weekly reports, the 26-year-old Rumer will be appearing in a limited engagement in the coveted role at Broadway’s Ambassador Theater for eight weeks, beginning August 18 and wrapping October 11. Willis is stepping into the role most recently held by former pop star Brandy Norwood. Other actresses who have played the role include Christie Brinkley and Ashlee Simpson.

“Could not be more excited to be making my Broadway debut as Roxie in @chicagomusical”

This isn’t the first stage gig for Rumer Willis; she appeared off-Broadway in Nora Ephron’s Love, Loss And What I Wore.

Rumer, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, got her start in the industry appearing in projects with her father (The Whole Nine Yards, Hostage) and her mother (Now and Then), before lining up a series of small-screen gigs (Pretty Little Liars, Hawaii Five-0, CSI: New York).

However, Rumer truly came into her own on Season 20 of Dancing with the Stars. She won raves for her performances with partner Valentin Chmerkovsky, eventually winning the coveted Mirrorball Trophy, according to this Inquisitr report.

Rumer isn’t the only member of the Willis family to get a job on Broadway. Dad Bruce is also set to make his own Broadway debut, according to MSN, in an adaptation of the Stephen King novel Misery. Bruce will play the role of author Paul Sheldon, who survives a car accident on a country road, only to be rescued but then imprisoned by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes. Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne, The Big Bang Theory) plays the role of Annie.

Judging by the comments on her Instagram post, Rumer’s fans are happy for the young actress.

“Omg I thought u were perfect for that the first time I saw u dance on dwts!!”

“I’m getting my tickets tomorrow!! Can’t wait to see you!!!!!”

“Congratulations!! You’ll make a smashing roxy rumer”

“You are going to be fabulous!!!!”

“I can’t wait to see you. I’m a professional dancer. I said as soon as I saw you dance, ‘That girl’s got it!’ She could made her living dancing. Glad you’re continuing it. You have a God given talent!”

Rumer Willis’ Broadway engagement will end just a few days before her dad’s begins, on October 22.
