Atlanta Braves Rumors: Freddie Freeman Injury Worse Than Anticipated, Fantasy Baseball Owners Will Be Frustrated

Atlanta Braves rumors about the Freddie Freeman injury aren’t good. The Braves may not have Freeman for several more weeks, as the rehab on his wrist injury has not gone as well as hoped. A report from the Atlanta-Journal Constitution states that he won’t be returning immediately after the All-Star break. The original plan had been to activate him from the disabled list for the Braves’ July 17 game, but that move is going to be delayed. Team president John Hart spoke about what is going on with Freeman moving forward.

“It’s more serious than we expected. I’m hoping he’ll be back before the first of August but he may not be. He’s working hard to get back but it’s a slow-healing injury and it still gives him pain when he swings. He dinged it, played four or five days with it, and we have him a few days off. We gave him an injection and thought he would be back in two or three days but it was no better. We did further tests and found it was more serious than we thought.”

Fantasy baseball owners around the country just groaned in unison. These Atlanta Braves rumors certainly dictate the team not rushing Freddie Freeman back from the DL, especially with how the team has fallen in the National League East standings recently. After posting a.500 record through the first half of the season, the Braves have now lost five games in a row, to drop to 42-47. That puts them seven games out of first place in the division and six games out of the second wild card slot.

Freeman had been putting together another good season for the Braves, batting.299 with an.887 OPS before his injury. He was actually on pace to have his best season yet with the Braves, but that got derailed by his wrist issues. At just 25-years-old, he has a lot of baseball left in his future, so the All-Star first baseman has very little incentive to push his body too far this season. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, he is really the only star player that escaped getting traded in the last offseason.

The Braves locked up Freeman in a long-term contract through the 2021 MLB season, so it’s not like the team needs to showcase him before the MLB trade deadline, either. The reality is that he could now be out until mid-August, with is equally frustrating for Atlanta Braves fans and fantasy baseball owners looking to see him back on the field.
