Kid Rock Confederate Flag Controversy: Protesters Got It Wrong As They Had Nothing To Protest About

Protesters may have jumped the gun on claiming that Kid Rock was still using a Confederate flag during his concerts. According to The Detroit Free Press, the rocker chose to stop using the Confederate flag five years ago, right after he accepted an award from the Detroit NAACP in 2011.

A Detroit civil rights group had started their protest against Kid Rock in early July. In addition, they also went after Chevrolet for sponsoring the singer’s tour. They wanted the car company to pull out their sponsorship. But now, it seems that this group had nothing to protest about as publicist Nick Stern cleared everything up.

“It’s been more than five years since he’s had that flag on tour. They’re protesting something he’s not even doing.”

Stern said that during his early rock n roll days, the musician defended the use of the flag and paraded it while he was rocking it out on stage during his concerts. Even then, the Confederate flag controversy was in full force as protesters were outside burning flags during his acceptance of the 2011 award.

Kid said back then that he “didn’t have any hate in his heart.” The Confederate flag was just a symbol of his Southern rock heritage that he is known for. He is also known for being a little rebellious, and the flag portrayed that side of him as well. However, he has not shown it for the last five years. So, there was nothing at all to protest about.

Chevy has given Kid Rock their full support throughout this controversy. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, they chose to continue their sponsorship despite the pleas to drop Kid Rock.

The musician also dropped a message to the protesters which Fox News reporter, Megyn Kelly, read on air. He said, “Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my a**/Ask me some questions.” That was his way of saying that they began their protest without knowing all of the facts first. His publicist was not happy that the civil rights group in Detroit never did their homework before they chose to speak out against the singer.

The church shooting last month in Charleston, S.C. has left much of the country in an uproar over the Confederate flag. The fact that some southern states allowed the flag to be flown on state land was particularly offensive to many Americans.

The debate over whether this controversial symbol should be taken down and not displayed at all has Americans taking sides over this issue. It looks like even past usage of the Confederate flag is not okay with some people, even though someone has not been seen with it for years.

In fact, Rev. Charles Williams II thinks that it would be a good idea for Kid Rock to denounce this flag publicly. What do you think about that?
