Bobby Brown Avoids Jail Time, Agrees To DUI Plea Deal


Bobby Brown will not spend any time behind bars following his DUI arrest on march 26, 2011. Brown’s attorney reached a plea deal with the district attorney’s office on Wednesday which led to a “no contest” plea to a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Under terms of the deal the 43-year-old singer was given three years’ probation and one day in a Los Angeles County jail. Since Brown served a day behind bars following his arrest he won’t be required to report for jail time.

Also as part of the deal Brown was fined $390 and must take part in a 90-day alcohol education program.

Brown received his DUI when he was pulled over on a California Highway Patrol while driving and talking on his cellphone. Brown failed a sobriety test after being pulled over and was eventually taken to and booked at Van Nuys County Jail.

Bobby Brown’s arrest occurred just four days after ex-wife Whitney Houston’s autopsy revealed the official cause of her death. Many opponents of Bobby Brown credit the singer for Houston’s downfall, after the singers began dating Whitney Houston appeared to begin on her path to financial and career ruin due largely to cocaine and alcohol abuse.

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston divorced in 2007 after 14 years of marriage, they have one child together, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 19.

If Brown had been fully convicted of his crime he could have been forced to spend one year behind bars.
