History Channel’s ‘Vikings’: Harbard To Return In Season 4

Season 3 of History Channel’s Vikings saw a new character introduced, that of the wanderer, Harbard, played by The Strain’s Kevin Durand. Harbard’s introduction to Kattegat while Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel) was away caused havoc within the viking village.

WARNING: Spoilers abound in this article. If you have not watched up to the season 3 finale of History Channel’s Vikings, then please turn away now.

As a result of his short stay in Kattegat, Harbard managed to help Ragnar’s son with his pain but another Vikings character, the much loved, Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig) lost her life in return. Harbard left Kattegat after that and, for many Vikings fans, it seemed unlikely he would return.

However, at San Diego Comic Con, Kevin Durand confirmed Harbard would indeed return in season 4 of Vikings. Could this mean he has unfinished business in Kattegat? While Durand made the announcement, his lips were tightly sealed on any spoilers for season 4 of Vikings. Although he did tell Zap2It that Harbard would “create more chaos.”

While show creator Michael Hirst did not offer any teasers in relation to Harbard’s return to Vikings, he did mention to The Hollywood Reporter a little about Ragnar’s son that Harbard healed.

“We’re going on with developing the sons and they will play a bigger and bigger part in season four. That’s very important to me, this has never been the Ragnar Lothbrok show, this is a show about vikings. And again historically speaking, a couple of Ragnar’s sons did become more famous than he was. I’m thinking particularly of Bjorn and the wonderfully named Ivor the Boneless. Ivor’s story is a crucial and amazing part of season four.”

Hirst also mentioned the fact there will be a little tension between Ragnar and his sons in season 4 due to the fact that one of Ragnar’s greatest fears was that his sons would become more famous than him. Could this somehow play in with Harbard’s return to Vikings?

Or perhaps Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) has fallen pregnant with Harbard’s child after their tryst in season 3 of Vikings? That would certainly cause “chaos” when he returned.

History Channel’s Vikings will return in 2016. Season 4 is currently still being filmed on location in Ireland. Below is the season 4 trailer for Vikings that was released last week during San Diego Comic Con.
