Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Reds To Rekindle Interest In Marco Reus?

Liverpool could be plotting a transfer bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus in the coming days, as the Reds set to their attack amid preparations for the upcoming season. Marco Reus has been a perennial target of the Liverpool hierarchy, and many believe that the German forward would be the perfect replacement for Raheem Sterling.

Liverpool would not be shy about splashing the cash. However, a lack of Champions League could deter Reus, despite failing to qualify for Europe due to Dortmund’s poor season. The 26-year-old spent much of last season out with various injuries throughout the campaign.

Liverpool’s interest shows an intent of building a team ready to challenge for the title after the sale of European Golden Boy winner Raheem Sterling for £49 million. Sterling completed his move to Manchester City, and keen to prove himself at an higher level.

Sterling stated, “The thing that excites me the most is the world-class squad we have and knowing we have a team that is capable of winning things year in, year out,”

The 20-year-old also thanked his past managers, including Brendan Rodgers, for the opportunity and faith shown throughout the years at Liverpool.

“I’d like to thank Rafa Benitez for taking me to Liverpool as a 15 year-old — that was a massive step for me and a new challenge. Also to Kenny Dalglish for showing such faith in me and putting me in at such a young age. I want to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me a chance and an opportunity in the first team, and giving me a real chance to cement a place in the first team and show the world my talents.”

Liverpool got on with life without Raheem Sterling with a 4-0 win over a Thai All Star XI. Liverpool fans got the chance to see new signings such as Origi, Milner, and Clyne for the first team in a Liverpool jersey. Jordan Henderson also made his first appearance in style as the official new captain of the Reds, with a beautifully crafted rabona to set up Adam Lallana.

Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was pleased with his team’s performance and has hinted that Liverpool could still be in the market for more players.

“I’ve been really pleased with the quality and importantly the work of the players. For us if we are going to progress it’s going to be as a team and a lot of our work will be done on our team and our spirit because we’ve brought quality.”
