Andrew Luck Confirmed: Stanford QB Will Play For Indy Colts

St. Louis Rams general manager Ryan Grigson confirmed on Tuesday that Standard QB Andrew Luck would be chosen as the teams No. 1 draft pick when the 2012 NFL draft starts up on Thursday.

The “Luck decision” isn’t exactly a well kept secret among NFL analysts who often tried to give a bit of suspense to the situation by throwing around the name of Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III however Griffin refused to try out with the Indianapolis Colts leading to speculation that the teams decision was all but locked up.

Grigson claims that Indy decided not to have Griffin visit the teams headquarters after making its decision to go with Andrew Luck severa weeks ago.

Speaking at the teams voluntary minicamp workout this week Grigson said:

“We didn’t the see the point in prolonging what the world already knows. It’s about Andrew and we wanted to do the right thing by him.”

In the meantime the Washington Redskins will take Robert Griffin III as the NFL’s No. 2 pick.

Following that choice the No. 3 pick will go to the Minnesota Vikings are are eying three non-QB choices that include USC left tackle Matt Kalil, Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon and LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne.

In celebration of his No. 1 draft pick Andrew Luck is expected to be in New York on Thursday night with his entire family in tow. After the draft Luck will fly to Indianapolis where he will head to Lucas Oil Stadium to answer interview questions and officially become part of his new home team.

Speaking about his teams decision head coach Chuck Pagano said:

“Really, on behalf the kid, you try to make things a little bit easier on his part. Go ahead and make the decision. Go ahead get it out there officially that he’s our guy. The intangibles are off the chart. You know the skill set. You’ve seen his body of work. He’s a gym rat. He’s a football junkie. He’s big. He’s strong. He’s physical. He can make every throw out there. He’s a great leader in his own way.”

Remember the Indianapolis Colts last first overall draft pick in 1996? They chose a quarterback by the name of Peyton Manning during that pick, perhaps you have heard of him?
