Norman Reedus: The Secret To Being Daryl Dixon Is Motorhead And ‘Candy Crush’

Norman Reedus plays Daryl Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead. His character is a strong fan favorite and at this year’s San Diego Comic Con many people dressed up as him during the Q&A panel with the cast and crew of The Walking Dead.

One fan wanted to know what Norman Reedus did to get into character for Daryl Dixon. According to Reedus, “A lot of Motorhead, a lot of coffee… I play Candy Crush a lot.” He followed up with noting just how addicted to Candy Crush he really is.

“I am so into it, it’s ridiculous.”

Also admitting that he spends an awful lot of money on the game. Although, as the moderator, Chris Hardwick, pointed out, in the Walking Dead universe, Candy Crush doesn’t even exist yet as the zombie apocalypse occurred well before the game came out.

Later on, when a Norman Reedus cosplayer stepped up to ask him a Walking Dead question, Reedus and the fan had a chat about being Daryl before the question was asked. He wanted to know what sort of character development would occur for Daryl Dixon in season 6 of The Walking Dead. Norman, however, was more excited about the fact the fan had accidentally called him what sounded like “Enormous” instead of “Norman.” After a bit of banter, and Norman insisting that the fan start playing Candy Crush, he pointed out that Daryl Dixon might have a tough time in season 6.

“The thing about Alexandria is that he [Daryl] didn’t want to go there at all.”

Another fan wanted to know which season so far has been the darkest for Daryl Dixon in terms of his sanity and morals. Reedus decided that every season of The Walking Dead has posed “dark moments” for Daryl.

And, for the record, Norman Reedus is on level 275 of Candy Crush.

The full panel for The Walking Dead were: Scott Gimple, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes), Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee), Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Melissa McBride (who plays Carol and brought cookies along to Comic Con. No one was game enough to eat them), Lennie James (Morgan), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) and Norman Reedus (who plays fan favorite Daryl Dixon and took phone video of the audience as he entered).

The Walking Dead will return for season 6 on Sunday October 11, 2015, on AMC. You can view the Comic Con trailer for season 6 here.
