Will ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunnam Return For ‘Pacific Rim 2’?

Fans will be eager to learn that Guillermo del Toro has been leaking spoilers concerning one of his upcoming movies, Pacific Rim 2. With that in mind, how will the storyline change and which of the stars, which included Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, from the first film will be making a return this time around?

Del Toro recently sat down with Collider where he discussed how the second film will feature a time jump after the events of Pacific Rim. “It’s not an immediate follow-up,” he revealed. “It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after — what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”

The director went on to explain how two of the main characters will be back, partly because the movie will focus on the Kaiju, but also because he enjoys writing their story lines so much.

“I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn [Gorman] and Charlie [Day],” he explained in reference to Dr. Hermann Gottlieb and Dr. Newton Geiszler. “They are really, really — I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau [Ron Perlman] so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them.”

Although del Toro revealed that both Day and Gorman would be included in the movie, he didn’t reveal who else would be returning. This leaves many wondering if Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikichu will also be among the cast members when the movie hits the big screens in 2017.

Meanwhile, Rinko Kikichu recently sat down with Coming Soon, and talked about how she would like to once again play Mako, who had a romance with the Sons of Anarchy alum in the first movie.

Pacific Rim did not follow the cookie cutter tradition of blockbusters where you have girl meets boy, they fall in love and get together and live happily ever after,” Kickuchi stated. “So I think one of the themes that runs through Pacific Rim is how that relationship becomes a good strong relationship.”

While the official release date for the movie is still a ways off, Pacific Rim 2 is expected to start filming in either November or December of 2015. Along with Zak Penn writing the script for the sequel, it is also thought that del Toro is planning on the franchise being comprised of three films in total.
