Alaska: Kayaking Couple Suddenly Encounters Massive Pod Of Whales [Video]

An incredible video showing an encounter a kayaking couple had with a pod of whales is fast going viral. The video posted recently on YouTube has already managed to garner over 64,000 views. According to The New York Post, the couple who had the amazing experience were 22-year-old Jack Delaney and 27-year-old Kat Georgia. The duo were on a kayaking trip off the Alaskan Coast near Cape Resurrection when the huge pod of humpback whales decided to surface — all at once to give them a surprise of their lifetime! The duo, who did notice the presence of the huge whales nearby had started to film the spectacle. However, they never thought the pod of whales would put on a show as spectacular as this. The whales appear at the 55-second mark in the video.

Speaking to the Caters News Agency, Delaney told how exciting a moment it was for the duo. In fact, their mood can be judged from their reaction in the video itself where they are heard shouting and freaking out when the whales appear.

“At first I was excited and nervous. Then the bubbles started coming up more rapidly and I got scared and started freaking out. Honestly, it was the most amazing thing to happen to me ever. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that will be with me forever.”

The duo were careful not to let the excitement get the best of them and were able to balance and continue paddling along after the breathtaking experience.

Humpback whales are known as the gentle giants of the oceans and are not known to attack humans. These whales could grow up on an average up to 60-feet in length and weigh over 40 metric tons. Females are usually larger than males. Apart from being friendly with humans, humpback whales are also known to be okay with the presence of bottlenose dolphins and other whale species. In fact, it is not uncommon to find large colonies of humpback whales, blue whales (which are larger), sperm whales, and minke whales living together in a large pod. In ths case however, the pod seems to be only consisting of humpback whales.

The Inquisitr has, in the past, reported about a not-so-pleasant encounter with the whales as well. Back in January, a few boaters in Alaska received the shock of their lives when their boat collided with a jumping humpback whale.
