Dunkin’ Donuts: America’s Top-Selling Donuts Plus Plans For Expansion

America is running on Dunkin’ Donuts. Literally. The coffee and donut chain has been claimed to have the top-selling donuts in the country.

According to a previous report on Boston.com, Dunkin’ Donuts’ five top-selling donuts are chocolate glazed cake, original glazed, jelly-filled, Boston kreme, and chocolate frosted donuts. This proves that Americans love to eat their share of sweet and sugary-filled donuts. Dunkin’ Donuts is planning to spread the love by expanding in various states on the East Coast.

Dunkin’ Donuts announced its plans to expand in the Virginia and West Virginia areas over the next eight years. The company hopes to open as many as 51 restaurants in both of the states. Dunkin’ Donuts signed a deal with seven franchise operators to make this dream possible. The first location will open this year, and the latest will open in 2023.

Franchise operators are looking to open new Dunkin’ Donuts stores. They currently have four new designs to choose from. These franchisees can also mix and match the designs to give each of the stores a personal feel.

Seventeen of those Dunkin’ Donuts stores are coming to the Richmond area. According to the company, the new stores could be free-standing restaurants. Another option is to have Dunkin’ Donuts stores located inside convenience stores, gas stations, travel places, resorts, and universities. The first restaurant is expected to open in 2017 and the remainder by 2019. North Carolina’s Outer Banks and the Heritage Group LLC are the franchise groups that plans to develop in the Richmond area.

Dunkin’ Donuts also hopes to add restaurants to the Charleston area in the next few years. All five stores will be added in between Charleston and Beckley, and will be franchised by Little General Stores. The first store is scheduled to open in 2016.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 8, Grant Benson, Dunkin’ Donuts Vice President of Global Franchising and Business Development, explained how his company hopes to expand.

“Our enthusiastic and dedicated franchisees contribute to our brand’s growth, which has helped solidify our position as one of the fastest growing brand’s by unit count in the quick-service restaurant industry. We are thrilled these existing and new franchisees haven chosen to expand in the Virginia and West Virginia markets, and know these new restaurants will satisfy a growing consumer demand in the local communities they serve.”

Not only is the popular donut and coffee shop planning to expand, but it also it’s also testing its home delivery service. As previously reported via the Inquisitr, Dunkin’ Donuts is beta-testing its new home delivery app in some parts of the Northwest. Coffee lovers will have to wait for the company’s home delivery service to happen within the next few years.

Dunkin’ Donuts was founded in 1950 in Canton, Massachusetts. The restaurant specializes in both coffee and baked goods. The company has more than 11,300 restaurants in 37 countries across the globe.
