Ben Affleck Is ‘So Duplicitous,’ ‘Gone Girl’ Director Said Of Troubled Star In DVD Commentary

Ben Affleck is going through a rough time after news of his recent marital problems surfaced, and now word that the director of Gone Girl director called him “duplicitous” has been revealed.

But contrary to what you may think, it’s not that David Fincher — who directed Affleck in the flick — is piling on the guy. The comments are part of the film’s DVD commentary and were made earlier than when Affleck and his soon-to-be ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, announced they were divorcing after 10-years of marriage.

Fans were shocked by the revelation that one of Hollywood’s most popular power couples were calling it quits, and the timing couldn’t have been more poignant. News of their divorce came the day after Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner celebrated — or marked — their 10th wedding anniversary.

Fincher’s comments may have proven to be prophetic if rumors that Ben Affleck cheated on his wife and mother of his three children are indeed true. Just like his character in Gone Girl, the man seems to have some issues, and his director picked up on that at the time of filming in 2013.

The Gone Girl director appeared to notice how easy it was for Affleck to get into the character, who is suspected of foul play in the disappearance of his wife, played by Rosamund Pike. An attentive Tumblr blogger noticed the eerie comments, which were meant to be funny as Fincher was laughing at the time.

“This is something that Ben is extraordinarily good at, when he has to cook up a phone conversation, when he has to hear somebody on the other end of the phone.

“If I was his wife, I think I would be very suspicious, always, of whoever just called, because he has a real gift at being able to insinuate a conversation.

“He had to do these things in the foreground where he takes out his phone and looks at it and puts it away so his sister doesn’t see it. There are people who do that and it’s too pointed, but Ben is very, very subtle and there’s a kind of indirectness to the way he can do those things. Probably because he’s so duplicitous.”

According to media reports, Ben Affleck confessed to Jennifer Garner he had cheated on her and she kicked him out of the house. The Inquisitr previously reported that moving trucks were spotted at the couple’s home, but rumors of marital problems were dismissed with a statement that they were renovating.
