Baby Who Was Pronounced Dead After Birth Starts Breathing 22 Minutes Later

Same-sex married couple Laura and Abbie Tompkins of Chelmsford, Essex claims the birth of their son, who was stillborn but began breathing 22 minutes later, was a miracle, according to Mirror.

After wedding on February 2013, 21-year-old Laura and Abbie, 24, immediately wanted children and began the process as soon as possible. Laura became pregnant in January of 2014, but her pregnancy suddenly ended in a tragic miscarriage.

Still desperate to start their family, the same-sex couple spent $10,000 to get Abbie pregnant, which was a success in September 2014. On May 30, she arrived at Broomfield Hospital in hopes of delivering a healthy baby boy.

However, upon her arrival, doctors immediately induced her labor due to “reduced fetal movement.” After their son, Jacob, was born, he was pronounced dead after doctors made several attempts to resuscitate him.

What was supposed to have been the happiest day of their lives soon turned into a tragedy.

“I went into an extreme shock and Laura vomited upon hearing the news,” Abbie said. “Doctors started rallying around Jacob and we couldn’t see him.”

“I couldn’t hear anything from him and tears were streaming down my face.”

Twenty-two minutes after doctors pronounced their baby dead, he miraculously started breathing.

“After 22 minutes, which felt like a lifetime, he started breathing,” Abbie added. “It was a miracle, but they then rushed him to Guy’s hospital in London.”

“Laura had to stay where she was and I went with Jacob.”

“We fell pregnant but after eight weeks Laura miscarried,” Abbie said. “Jacob is a real fighter – doctors don’t know why he was not breathing, but he’s managed to pull through like a little trooper.

“We won’t know the extent of his brain damage until he is a year old and he could have cerebral palsy.”

After the baby was brought back to life, he had to spend a month in the hospital to recovery. However, he has since been released from the hospital and is currently with his mother who are loving every minute of their miracle baby.

“We hope he makes a full recovery.”

“We have always wanted a baby and fought hard for it and no matter the outcome we love him with all our heart.”
