‘Una Noche’ Cuban Actors Flee Before Tribeca Film Festival Premiere

Two Cuban actors have gone missing after arriving in the U.S. for the premiere of their film “Una Noche.”

Ironically, the film is about three young adults who flee from Cuba to the United States to escape their home country’s communist ways.

Anailin de la Rua de la Torre and Javier Nunez Florian, both 20-year-old Cuban-born actors, went missing as soon as their plane touched down in Miami, instead of making their way to New York for the film’s premiere.

Dariel Arrechada, also 20 and the third star of the film, stated, “I’m here alone in New York.” Arrechada traveled with the pair initially, and made the journey all the way to New York, unlike the couple, who he was unable to locate after their plane landed in Miami.

The Huffington Post writes that:

“He and his colleagues are unable to reach the two actors, and do not know of the pair’s current whereabouts. But Arrechada, who said his visa will expire “in a few days,” insisted he will be returning to Cuba after the Tribeca festival wraps up.”

Arrechada stated, “Well, at the very least, I will go back to Cuba.” His reasoning? The 20 year old Cuban native explained in Spanish:

“I have my family there, my friends, my girlfriend…here, I don’t know anyone. Here, I don’t know the way of life. I also don’t know English very well.”

This is the first time outside Cuba for any of the actors in the film. Lucy Mulloy, director of “Una Noche” commented that:

“I really was thinking that they were going to come here and enjoy the festival, and I thought they would love to participate in it…they made a decision, I guess.”

Dariel Arrechada went on to say:

“That’s their choice, you know? That’s their way of thinking. No one is forced to stay. And no one is forced to go back. If you want to stay in the United States, I think, well, stay. If you want to go back, go back. Not all of us have to stay and not all of us have to go back. It’s about what you want to do with your life.”
