Rosie Perez Has Emotional Goodbye On ‘The View’ [Video]

Rosie Perez might be taking her final bow on The View in August, but today she had quite an emotional goodbye. Perez returned to the panel once again to address the news that she’s leaving The View after one season on the daytime talk show.

Perez, whose exit has been rumored for months now, couldn’t stop herself from crying as she talked about the news. Not only was Perez in tears, but her co-panelist, Nicolle Wallace, was visibly upset, and moderator Whoopi Goldberg was also moved to tears as well, barely able to get words out.

During her short speech, Rosie cried, “You guys all heard [the news]. I’ve decided that it’s time to move on and I will say that today is very bittersweet for me. I am excited for what is to come but I am so sad to leave The View, the staff, the producers, ABC and especially these two ladies.”

As she thanked her panelists, she started to cry even more. She continued, “I want to thank you for your friendship, Nicolle, and your intelligence and your wit and your sunshine.”

Perez then addressed Whoopi Goldberg, saying, “Whoopi, I want to thank you for everything—your guidance, your professionalism and most of all your friendship. It’s a dream sitting here with you and you’re truly the captain of the ship.”

As the Inquisitr reported, Perez wanted to move on from The View to focus on her love of acting or at least this is the line that ABC is using after they botched firing her back in January.

In a statement, Bill Wolff, the show’s executive producer, said, “Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting. Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive…Rosie will always be a part of The View family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up.”

We also reported before the news broke that The View was looking to get rid of Perez and/or Nicolle Wallace, so it’s still up in the air whether or not Wallace is staying on board for another season. As of right now, we know that Goldberg is staying on board as moderator, and newcomer Raven Symone will remain. Back when The View was going to fire Perez for not being the perfect fit, it was rumored that Naya Rivera would be her replacement. Rivera’s name hasn’t been brought into the conversation since then.
