Pippa Middleton: Christening Outfit Criticized, Did Pippa Try To Upstage Kate?

On Sunday, Princess Charlotte’s big day finally came, and the second child of the Duke of Cambridge received the baptismal waters at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in her christening ceremony. As People magazine reports, although Princess Charlotte was undoubtedly the star of the christening, Pippa Middleton received a lot of attention due to the fact that she dressed nearly identical to her sister, Princess Kate.

For the umpteenth time, Pippa Middleton and her sister seemed to match each other when it comes to styling. Kate chose to wear a cream-colored ensemble of dress and jacket, including a feather adorned Jane Taylor fascinator and LK Bennett shoes, while Pippa donned a similar outfit by Emilia Wickstead and nude heels by Vivienne Westwood. It is obvious that two famous sisters share the same taste when it comes to fashion.

The christening of Princess Charlotte was all about the fashion. The beautiful Duchess looked gorgeous in an elegant coat with matching hat that made for an all-around stylish look — which may have been the reason why Pippa Middleton chose to copy it.

As Life & Style pointed out, the princess’ christening was not the first time Pippa’s been accused of copying her older sister’s style. At the royal wedding in 2011, Pippa wore a white dress that resembled Kate Middleton’s lacey gown.

It was a very special day for the royal family, who gathered to celebrate Princess Charlotte’s christening. But there were notable absences — such as her uncle, Prince Harry, who is Africa where he is currently working during the next three months in environmental and humanitarian projects. The first to arrive was the baby’s paternal grandfather, Prince Charles, who was accompanied by his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Then came the maternal grandparents of the baby, Michael and Carole Middleton; and siblings Catherine, Pippa, and James.

Despite the fashionable highlights, the star on Sunday, of course, was Princess Charlotte. The 2-month-old baby looked adorable as she matched her mom and aunt in a cream-colored christening gown.

Although Pippa Middleton’s christening outfit seemed to impress many, etiquette expert William Hanson criticized Pippa’s look and said she should contrast her wardrobe to her royal sister Kate.

“Had it not come up in conversation on the telephone as to what each of them would be wearing?” Hanson wrote. “Yesterday’s minor fashion incident is just plain irritating: Pippa doesn’t need to resort to cheap tricks. She is perfectly pretty in her own right and the press would more-or-less have gushed over whatever she wore.”
