The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s latest episode featured a devastating moment involving longtime cast member Vicki Gunvalson. As she and her co-stars, including Tamra Barney, Jeana Keough, Shannon Beador and Meghan King Edmonds, enjoyed game night, she received the shocking news of her mother’s sudden and unexpected death.
In her Bravo blog, written just after the episode of Real Housewives aired, Gunvalson wrote a tribute to Joanne Steinmetz.
“My mother died on February 4, 2015 for unknown causes. We elected not to do an autopsy, and the coroner said it was either a massive heart attack or an aneurysm. She was found by my brother around 8PM at night, laying on top of her covers on her bed. If it’s ‘your time to go,’ I can only say what a beautiful way to die. She was at peace with her golden retriever dog Maggie lying next to her. Billy said it looked like she was sleeping when he found her. We are all still in shock and we miss her so much. She was the rock of our family – she was an amazing mother to all five children, and an amazing grandmother to five grandchildren, and to two beautiful great grandchildren, Owen and Troy.”
Five months later, the Real Housewives star recalled, there isn’t a day that goes by that she doesn’t want to call and talk to her, and tell her she loves her. Gunvalson misses her mother “so much” and is looking forward to the day she “will be with her in Heaven and at peace.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Real Housewives star recently opened up about how the death of her mother has had a lasting impact, and revealing the downside of filming a reality show. Speaking to PEOPLE Magazine in an interview last month, Gunalson admitted she was still not over her mother’s death.
Also during the interview, Gunvalson explained that while filming a reality show can be fun, it can also be a little too real. After talking to her mother just hours prior, Gunvalson, with cameras in tow, was caught in an unfortunate moment, which is now a part of Real Housewives history.
“I am doing terrible. I’m not good, at all. I miss my mom so much.”
