San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors: Outfield Help Could Be On The Way

The San Francisco Giants are in a bit of a free fall recently and that has led to more than a few people thinking the team needs to make a trade sooner rather than later.

The team might be the defending World Series champions but they aren’t a team that is looking like all the pieces are there to make another championship run this season.

This was underlined when the San Francisco Giants was handed a weekend sweep by a Washington Nationals team that also hasn’t look quite as unbeatable as the experts thought they might when the season kicked off. The sweep seems to have underlined the problem that actually plagued the team last year as well, but wasn’t a focus once the San Francisco Giants got into the post season. The world champs are having a real problem generating any offense from their outfielders. That is why trade rumors are centered around acquiring either Gerardo Parra or Cameron Maybin, according to Buster Olney.

As ESPN points out, the entire outfield for the San Francisco Giants has combined to hit 12 home runs this season. To put that in perspective, there are two players on the team, in Buster Posey (14) and Brandon Crawford (12) who have as many or more homers than the entire outfield this season. While neither Parra or Maybin are tearing the cover off the ball, they are both having solid seasons and are both playing for teams that are quickly falling out of contention. Trade rumors surround the players because both the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers don’t have a ton to trade.

MLB trade rumors always heat up this time of year, but Parra especially, with his.308 average, his six steals in eight attempts and his respectable if not eye-popping seven home runs make him attractive. This is because the Brewers are sitting in the cellar of the NL Central and aren’t showing many signs of life. Cameron Maybin and the Atlanta Braves might be scuffling, but trade rumors haven’t been as rampant because the team still holds a shot at the wildcard, even if the squad is currently sitting five games back of the second wild card team in the Chicago Cubs and are six games out of the NL East lead.

While the San Francisco giants are in a better position for the playoffs, the team has lost six in a row. That losing streak coupled with both the Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates getting hot of late has left the team 3.5 games out of the playoffs. A move needs to come soon if these trade rumors can be believed. It should be pointed out that if either Maybin or Parra came to the team, they would lead the San Francisco Giants outfielders in homeruns on day one as they both have seven blasts.
