Hillary Duff: Baby Luca Living Off Breastmilk ‘Rewarding’

Hillary Duff, former “Lizzie Maguire” star recently told People how rewarding it was to be a new mom. The 24 year old recently gave birth to son, Luca, and is proud that she is able to provide for her son by feeding him with her own milk.

Duff, who splits baby duty with husband Mike Comrie, says that her hubby is very “hands-on” with Luca during the day, but that she takes baby duty at night. She says this is because, “I wasn’t going to make him suffer just because I was having to get up [to feed the baby].”

While the actress does leave pre-pumped breastmilk for Comrie and others to give Luca when she is away, she says that she enjoys the bonding time with her son while he feeds. Duff elaborated, saying:

“Just to have your baby thrive and knowing that you’re doing that and you’re responsible — it’s such a rewarding feeling.”

Hillary Duff, who recently took a sponsorship for Johnson’s Baby Cares Initiative, is thrilled at every new milestone she has with Luca.

Johnson’s Baby Cares Initiative is huge for Duff, who feels responsible to help other mothers in the United States who are unable to provide for their babies after natural disasters. The campaign, titled “Save the Children,” is partnering to assemble, donate, and distribute over 5,000 care kits to needy families, which include baby care essentials.

Duff also added:

“You know what was a big milestone? The belly button falling off. That was a huge one. And then I wanted to keep it but my husband was like, ‘No, that’s gross, you can’t keep it!’ I’m like, ‘I’m totally keeping it,’ and I secretly kept it.”

Of course, following the interview, Duff’s secret is not so secret anymore. She adds that the belly button stub is, “in a Ziploc bag in the back of my makeup drawer. Luca’s going to think I’m a freak!”
