Baton Rouge Police Officer Duke Staples Enters ‘Father Mode’ At Scene Of Car Crash, Photo Goes Viral

Sgt. Duke Staples of the Baton Rouge Police Department went into what one commenter called “father mode” when he responded to the scene of a serious car accident.

A picture was snapped at the scene of the crash that would soon make Staples an online celebrity of sorts, understandable once you hear the story behind it.

The little girl pictured was involved in a car accident that occurred in the 9200 block of Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Both the child’s mother and her 12-year-old sister suffered injuries in the crash and were in the process of being stabilized and readied for transport to the hospital when the officer noticed this 4-year-old walking around the scene of the accident. She had lost her shoes in the wreck and was walking alone through the scene, which had become a sea of broken glass.

The Baton Rouge Police Facebook page explains the rest.

“Sergeant Duke Staples arrived on scene and noticed the little girl had lost her shoes and was walking around the scene littered with broken glass.

“Sgt. Staples took the 4 year old under his care and comforted her until EMS was able to stabilize the sister and prepare her for transport to the hospital. A family member later arrived to take care of this precious angel while her mother and sister were transported to the hospital for treatment.

“We want to take this opportunity to recognize Sergeant Duke Staples for his service and kindness to a little girl who had just experienced a tragic incident.”

At this time, no further details on the mom and 12-year-old girl’s injuries have been released, but that hasn’t mattered to the thousands of people, who’ve taken notice of this touching image on social media and news sites like WAFB.

“He took his badge off and went into father mode,” said Monique Bennett Sanders. “How sweet of you, his first impression will be the last impression he had on this Lil angel. God bless you Sgt. Staples.”

“Thank God we still have police that truly caring!!” wrote Terri Mitchell. “God bless this Sgt and we need to pray for their safety as they continue to protect and serve our communities!! Pray for the family well being!!”

“God bless all of our officers, and thank you to this amazing man,” added Kyra Fontenot. “I don’t remember who said this, but it is true. ‘A Man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.'”
