LaMarcus Aldridge Rumors: Portland Trail Blazers Still Have Shot At Signing Aldridge?

LaMarcus Aldridge rumors could shock some Portland Trail Blazers fans. The Blazers might be able to sign Aldridge after all, as a new report from CBS Sports on Saturday (July 4) lists the team as a possible destination. A “source” has told CBS that the San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, and Portland Trail Blazers are at the top of the list for Aldridge this offseason. The confirmed rumor is that he will decide to sign with one of those three teams very soon.

This is a huge deal for the Blazers because previous LaMarcus Aldridge rumors had stopped mentioning the team as a possible destination. As teams like the LA Lakers, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks began wooing him, it seemed like he was officially gone. Now those three teams, as well as the Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets, and New York Knicks, have been pushed down the list, basically eliminating them from real contention. So could Aldridge really sign with the Blazers now?

A report from the Oregonian stated that Blazers point guard Damian Lillard had reached out to Aldridge about re-signing with the team. The conversation was said to have gone well, even as the Blazers have lost several starting players to free agency. It had also been rumored that Lillard was going to travel down to Los Angeles to meet with Aldridge, but it is not clear if that has taken place yet. The fact that might continue giving Blazers fans hope, though, is that Aldridge still hasn’t signed with another team.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Phoenix Suns might have a tough time getting LaMarcus Aldridge this offseason. It’s possible that the team might have to work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Blazers to acquire Aldridge, or create a similar scenario with the Dallas Mavericks for Tyson Chandler. The Suns and Chandler agreed (in principle) to a four-year, $52 million deal. He would be the center for the team, giving Aldridge yet another positive reason to sign with the Suns. He didn’t come cheap though.

After also giving Brandon Knight a big raise this NBA offseason, the Suns would have to get very creative to still land Aldridge. The San Antonio Spurs are in a similar position with all the money they have invested in re-signing players like Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Though it’s a strong possibility that he goes to the Suns or Spurs before re-signing with the Blazers, at least these latest LaMarcus Aldridge rumors indicate he hasn’t decided to call a new city home (yet). So can the Blazers pull off a miraculous deal in the 23rd hour?
