‘Sharktopus Vs. Whalewolf’ — Yes, It’s A Thing, Plus There’s A Trailer [Video]

For those of you who have enjoyed Sharknado and want something just as corny similar, the latest Sharktopus movie might be just your thing. Yes, I said latest. If you haven’t seen the others, you might want to check out the original Sharktopus (which was the predecessor to Sharknado but not made popular until Sharknado became a cult phenomenon) and Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda before you check out the latest installment.

The Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf synopsis from IMDb is below:

“When a mad scientist mixes the genes of a killer whale and a wolf, it creates the Whalewolf, and it’s up to Sharktopus to stop it.”

Yes, seriously, this movie not only involves a shark crossed with an octopus, it adds a whale blended with a wolf into the equation. Be prepared for plenty of CGI and loads of blood spatter as humans get in the way of the manic monster battles.

Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf stars Casper Van Dien, Catherine Oxenberg, Sarodj Bertin, Yasser Michelén, and Akari Endo. The movie is directed by Kevin O’Neill with Roger Corman billed as producer. Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf originally went under the title of Sharktopus vs. Mermantula but has since been changed.

The trailer for the movie actually has some laugh-out-loud moments, with Catherine Oxenberg stealing the show — in the trailer at least. Notoriously, trailers for movies such as these can be quite good while the actual movie fails over the length of it.

SyFy has now built a reliable franchise out of movies and shows such as these. While they have the Sharknado and Sharktopus franchises, they also have Z Nation, a new zombie series which many fans of zombie culture such as The Walking Dead find just as cheesy as the Sharknado movie franchise. However, even with the criticism, Z Nation does have a solid following and will be present at San Diego Comic Con 2015 as well as being renewed for a second season to premiere this year.
