Christopher Reeve’s Daughter Welcomes Son, Names Him After His Grandfathers

Christopher Reeve’s daughter named her son after the late actor, and fans are thrilled to share in the family’s good news. Alexandra Reeve Givens and her husband Garren just welcomed their first child, a baby boy. The little guy was born on June 13 and now the couple is sharing a bit about how they chose his name.

Alexandra and Garren Givens shared with People that they’ve named their baby Christopher Russel Reeve Givens. Christopher Reeve’s daughter says her son is named after his grandfathers from each side of the family, men the couple consider to be important role models for them.

The baby has been home with his parents for a few weeks now, and the family’s representative says that everybody is doing well. According to Today, little Christopher Russel Reeve Givens weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces when he was born. News of his arrival may have flown under the radar initially, but fans of the late actor are happy to be able to celebrate the news.

Alexandra, 31, works as an adjunct professor for Columbia Law School and she is also Senior Counsel in the United States Senate. Her husband Garren, 33, is the Director of the Presidential Innovation Fellows program within the Obama administration. Alexandra and Garren met while they were both students at Yale University.

At the time of the couple’s engagement in 2007, People shared that both Alexandra’s dad Christopher and her step-mom Dana knew and adored Garren. The couple dated for more than five years before getting engaged and they got married in 2008. Alexandra’s mother is Gae Exton, a British mental health counselor.

Former Superman star Christopher Reeve was paralyzed in a horseback riding accident in 1995. Reeve lived the rest of his life in a wheelchair and died in October 2004. Alexandra’s stepmother and Reeve’s wife, Dana Reeve, died in March 2006 after a battle with lung cancer.

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation continues its work related to spinal cord injury and the Reeve family continues to be heavily involved in the foundation’s work. As the Inquisitr reported last fall, the foundation has been making significant strides in spinal cord injury research.

People shared the first picture of Garren, Alexandra, and Christopher together and it indeed looks like everybody is doing very well so far. Many are touched to hear that Christopher Reeve’s daughter chose her son’s name to honor both her father and her husband’s father, and most would imagine he’s got a bright future ahead of him.
