Dolphin Jumps Into Boat: 350-Pound Dolphin Breaks Woman’s Ankles [Video]

A woman had both of her ankles broken after a 350-pound dolphin jumped into the boat with her husband and two children inside. A report from the Associated Press says the incident happened on June 21 while Chrissie Frickman was boating with her family.

The couple was celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary when they noticed a pod of dolphins had started swimming alongside them. Their celebration came to a sudden halt when a curious dolphin wanted to take a closer look and decided to jump into the boat.

Reportedly, the dolphin struck the railing of the boat and bounced inside. The impact sent the woman to the floor and it broke both of her ankles. Speaking to reporters about the incident, the woman’s husband, Dirk Frickman, explained that the family was shocked after realizing what had happened

“It hit my wife and knocked her over, and punched my daughter,” Dirk Frickman said. “I had this 350-pound dolphin in my boat,” he recalled. “There was no way to get it off the boat.”

It was pure chaos on the boat, Dirk explained. He had to tend to his wife, who was screaming in pain, while the dolphin was busy flopping on her legs. Somehow he managed to pull her out from beneath the animal, and the family was forced to stay close to the center console toward the bow because the dolphin was pulled toward the back due to the gravity of the boat.

Dirk called Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol to notify them of the terrifying situation while the family made their way to a harbor.

“I could hear my phone buzzing and beeping on the floor – it was covered in blood,” he said.

As he was steering, he splashed water on the dolphin to keep it alive while it struggled on the deck. The dolphin was bleeding heavily due to cuts it sustained from the jump.

“I was letting go of the wheel every 30 seconds to a minute and slowing down and pouring water on her,” Frickman said.

When authorities arrived, they were shocked at what they saw.

“He looked at the boat and said, ‘Oh, my God. I’ve never seen this before,'”Frickman said

The family was safe, but his wife had to be taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries. The dolphin was freed from the boat and Frickman believes it will survive.

“The dolphin was hopefully saved,” Frickman said. “It swam away with no problem.”
