‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 — Andrew Lincoln Teases Fans At The Saturn Awards [Video]

At the recent 41st Saturn Awards held in Burbank, California, AMC’s The Walking Dead got nominated for seven categories, taking the gold in three of them.

The Saturn Awards categories The Walking Dead were nominated for were: Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series, Best Actor in a Television Series (Andrew Lincoln), Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series (Melissa McBride), Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series (Norman Reedus), Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series (Emily Kinney), Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series (Chandler Riggs) and Best Guest Performance in a Television Series (Andrew J. West). They won in the following categories: Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series, Best Actor in a Television Series (tying with Hugh Dancy from Hannibal), and Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series (Melissa McBride). Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes) was happy to talk to the press afterwards, dropping some hints about season 6 of The Walking Dead in the process.

  • Andrew Lincoln teases there will certainly be tension between Rick Grimes and Morgan (Lennie James) when asked about the new Comic Con poster released last week.
  • He also likes the direction the writing and storyline direction being taken in The Walking Dead. Lincoln loved Rick’s “complex” journey in season 5 and hints that if Scott Gimple and the other writers keep pushing in the way they are going, it will open up the Walking Dead world like the fans have never experienced before.
  • When asked if Rick still has the strength to be the group leader in The Walking Dead, he hints that maybe Rick — and certainly Andrew Lincoln — doesn’t have the strength to be group leader, yet that is what is appealing about playing Rick because the character just keeps pushing himself anyway.
  • Andrew is particularly excited about episodes 1-6 in season 6 of The Walking Dead, but didn’t elaborate as to why other than issuing the following statement:

“It’s one of those jobs where you keep reading the new scripts and you get to the end of it and you realize that you’ve survived and then you just can’t wait for the next episode and the next installment and they’ve done a very brilliant thing of having a lot of principle cast members and they spin a lot of plates at the same time and they try to honor each and every character’s story,” Lincoln said.

  • He says he kind of like a “twisted, neurotic freak when he works” and keeping his “head down” while filming but wanted to thank the fans while at the Saturn Awards.
  • When speaking to the media, Andrew Lincoln also acknowledged The Walking Dead is a show made by fans for fans, citing Scott Gimple and Greg Nicotero as fans of the show.
