LeBron James To Become A Free Agent Again

LeBron James made a much ballyhooed return to the Cleveland Cavaliers just one year ago and that one year back may have been enough for James, as he has decided to become a free agent. ESPN is reporting the LeBron will decline his option for the 2015-2016 season and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Now this isn’t the time for Cavaliers fans to start burning LeBron’s jerseys again for he is expected to re-sign with the team, but there is always a chance that a deal does not get done and the game’s best player ends up elsewhere. It is likely he winds up signing the same kind of deal he signed this year, a two year deal with one guaranteed year and a player option for the second year, so that he can take advantage of the expected rise in the salary cap.

James may choose to wait and see what the Cavaliers bring aboard via free agency. Kevin Love may decide not to return to the team after a year of transition saw the numbers on his stat sheet take a hit. Love is the third banana in Cleveland, behind James and Kyrie Irving, and he may crave more shots and more of the spotlight, especially after he was the number one option for so long with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Owner Dan Gilbert tells Yahoo he knows he needs to do whatever he can to keep the Cavaliers an elite team because he doesn’t want to live through the pain of losing LeBron again.

“What stronger motivator could there be for a front office to make win-now moves than the specter of LeBron deciding to leave again?”

It would be a shame for Cavaliers fans if this team was dismantled after just one year together. LeBron was able to lead the team to the NBA Finals even after losing both Love and Irving to injuries during the playoffs. As reported on earlier at the Inquisitr the Cavaliers didn’t have an answer for the Golden State Warriors, but things could have been a whole lot different if James had his whole compliment of teammates to play with.

If Cleveland fails to re-sign James there will be many teams falling all over themselves to sign LeBron, with the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks being two of them. Cavaliers fans won’t breathe deeply until LeBron James once again signs on the dotted line
