Phyllis Stankiewicz: 88-Year-Old Woman Slaps Police Officer, Gets Slapped With Assault Charges

When most people hear the words “assault” and “elderly woman” in a sentence, they’d assume a poor little old lady was attacked by a heartless criminal. However, that reportedly wasn’t the case when police arrived at the home of an 88-year-old woman. Apparently, she wasn’t too pleased with them stopping by “unannounced” and now she’s facing assault charges.

According to the Berkshire Eagle, the Pittsfield Police Department received a call about a disturbance at Phyllis Stankiewicz’s residence in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. When the officers arrived, they reportedly knocked several times and stated their purpose, but to no avail.

After several minutes, Stankiewicz finally answered the door but, it’s probably safe to say officers weren’t expecting her reaction. The elderly woman — described as “angry and confused” — opened the door holding a knife. She allegedly pointed the knife at one of the officers at “waist level.”

“There’s no crime here. Get out of my house!” she allegedly yelled. However, that’s not all. She reportedly took things a step further by getting closer to one of the officers. He stated that she “was just about sticking it into my stomach” when the other officer grabbed the knife. But, even then she refused to back down.

Stankiewicz allegedly shoved the officer and slapped him as he was trying to calm her down. According to Opposing Views, she was so hostile officers had to “put her on the ground.” Stankiewicz was arrested and charged with one count of assault and battery, reports WCVB.

On Friday, June 25, she appeared in Central Berkshire District Cour where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. She has been released, but has a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 21.
