Fox News Anchor Asks ‘Can Three People Marry Each Other’ In Response To Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

The legalization of same-sex marriage across all 50 of the United States Of America on Friday was a landmark decision in the history of the country. It was also pretty simple to understand. Now gays and lesbians can marry each other. But Fox News anchor Martha MacCullum still couldn’t fully come to grips with the Supreme Court’s ruling.

During a segment on Fox News that MacCullum was hosting just after the historic announcement had been made, she asked pundit Greta Van Susteren if this now meant that three people could get married together. Seriously.

You can check out a video of Martha MacCullum asking this question below.

MacCullum’s comments in response to the 5-4 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges came as conservatives voiced their concerns about the change in the law. While speaking to her guest, Greta Van Susteren, MacCullum made the silly remarks.

“We’re just trying to think about the ramification, when a precedent is set, what it means down the road, right? So, suppose three people say, ‘We want to be a marriage. We’re three people and we love each other and we want to be a marriage.’ What’s to prevent that under this?”

This led Van Susteren to remark, “I don’t know that there is,” while at the same time pointing out these decisions are reached as cultures evolve and change.

According to IJReview, Chief Justice John Roberts raised the same point while discussing the Supreme Court’s new ruling.

Roberts declared, “If a same-sex couple has the constitutional right to marry because their children would otherwise ‘suffer the stigma of knowing their families are somehow lesser’ ante, at 15, why wouldn’t the same reasoning apply to a family of three or more persons raising children?”

Roberts later explained that he didn’t mean to compare “marriage couples with plural marriages in all respects,” only to highlight that there wasn’t a precedent for “same-sex marriage” from these states.

Friday’s decision made it pretty clear that it only applied to two people, so MacCullum shouldn’t be too worried about three-way marriages soon becoming the norm.

Meanwhile, during his press conference about the landmark decision, President Barack Obama declared, via SMH, that justice had been served.

“Our nation was founded on a bedrock principal that we are all created equal. The project of each generation is to bridge the meaning of those founding words with the realities of changing times. Progress on that journey often comes in small increments … And then sometimes there are days like this, when that slow steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt.”
