American Flag A ‘Symbol Of Hate’? Rush Limbaugh Says It ‘Won’t Be Long’
The American Flag is quickly on its way to becoming a “symbol of hate,” and liberals are pretty much to blame.
That’s at least the sentiment of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.
Amid the fallout of the Charleston, South Carolina, shootings, which left nine black Christians dead at the hands of white supremacist shooter Dylann Roof, there has been a new call to eradicate the Confederate flag from acceptance.
This movement — embraced by retailers, politicians, and government officials at the state and federal levels — has started a slippery slope that will eventually target the American Flag, Limbaugh believes, and it will probably be sooner rather than later.
“If you take a look at the timeline of progressive events, their speed and rapidity with which the left is conducting this assault on all of these American traditions and institutions, if you don’t think the American flag’s in their crosshairs down the road, you had better stop and reconsider,” he said on a recent broadcast.
“It isn’t gonna be long before the American flag is gonna cause chills, fear, scary thoughts.”
For one group of Americans — Native Americans — that could already understandably be the case, or so says some of the people responding to Limbaugh’s comments online.
A related comment on the website Quora by one Erik Trimble sums up such a sentiment.
“As a white American very cognizant of the horrid treatment of the Native Americans at the hands of the U.S. government (and, private citizens with the effective sanction of the U.S. government), I could certainly see why some Native Americans would consider the U.S. flag such a symbol.”
As for Limbaugh, he wanted to remind most of those deriding “free speech” Republicans and trying to hang the Confederate flag displays on them that it was “a Democrat governor that raised the [Confederate] flag.”
“The Confederacy was all Democrats. The segregationists in the old South were all Democrats. The slave owners were all Democrats. So you have this sad, horrific event of a deranged lunatic going into a church and killing nine people, and all of a sudden it becomes about slavery, the Confederate flag, and the Republican Party.”
Limbaugh believes his American Flag theory is dead on because it “has flown over far more bigotry and racism and homophobia than the Confederate flag,” or so his liberal opponents will claim.
