Lindsey Vonn Owes $1.7 Million In Taxes To IRS

World Cup and Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn is in debt to the IRS for $1.7 million for failure to pay part of her federal income taxes.

According to the Detroit News the skier owes $1,705,437 and the IRS has placed a tax lien against her and Thomas Vonn, the lien was filed on April 2 in Nevada.

Vonn has become a highly endorsed figure in the world of athletics, landing deals with Red Bull, Procter and Gamble, Under Armour and even Rolex. Recently Lindsey Vonn and Thomas Vonn announced they were splitting up.

In an email to the Detroit News Vonn revealed:

“It is no secret that my last year off the mountain has been filled with many personal challenges. This matter was only recently brought to my attention, and I took immediate and deliberate steps to remedy the situation.”

Lindsey Vonn has been very open about her situation, on Sunday she took to Facebook to address the issue directly with her fans writing:

“I am disappointed with this situation,” she wrote. “I just recently became aware of the outstanding balance and I have done everything in my power to settle it immediately. The money owed was for the 2010 tax year, which was filed on time, and it has been paid in full. This is an important lesson for me. Not being in control of my finances and relying on someone else who you believed had your best interest at heart was a mistake and one I will not make twice.”

Further details are not available at this time.
