Kevin Spacey And Megyn Kelly Join Hands For A New White House Drama, ‘The Resident’

Kevin Spacey appears set to continue his candid affair with the White House after a deal was announced between his Trigger Street production company and Fox 21 and 20th Century Fox TV studios.

If The Resident was to finally go on air, it would be the latest in a string of Washington D.C.-scripted shows that have engaged TV and internet audiences over the last few years, including Madam Secretary, The Scandal, and Kevin Spacey’s very own Netflix political thriller House of Cards, to name a few.

Dana Brunetti, who co-owns Trigger Street with Kevin Spacey, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming project.

“Kevin and I are always looking to align Trigger Street with entities that understand what we expect to accomplish and how to maximize all resources to produce the best content possible. Trigger Street and Fox have the makings of a powerful team, and we look forward to our upcoming projects.”

Jonnie Davis, who heads the Creative Affairs department of 20th Century Fox Television, also appeared excited at the prospect of working on a show that is expected to be a cross between Downtown Abbey and House of Cards.

“Kevin and Dana’s body of work — from House of Cards, The Social Network and Captain Phillips, just to name a few — is mind-blowing and aligns perfectly with our studio’s commitment to great storytelling and undeniable content. We are so excited to get going with Trigger Street and create some great television.”

The Resident will also be the first scripted effort of the hugely popular Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, who also features on the front cover of Variety this month.

Since Fox News moved her to primetime in 2013, Kelly has consistently been ranked among the top news anchors in the country. Only time will tell if Kelly, who invariably tends to have a fierce opinion on public matters, is ready for the switch yet, but her partnership with Kevin Spacey is surely enough to excite TV fans who can now eagerly look forward to another political feast on the horizon.

However, unlike many of the shows that focus on the political skulduggery around the highest seat of power, The Resident promises to cast a more personal eye over the affairs of the White House — for once, the caterwauling of the butlers, maids, and chauffeurs will not be lost amidst the polished sophistication of the most powerful leaders of the Free World. It is still not certain if Kevin Spacey, who sparked a new life into his acting career with his portrayal of Frank Underwood in House of Cards, will also helm an equally significant character in The Resident, but his fans will certainly hope so.
