Bob Barry Jr. Dead: Sportscaster Dies After Car Collides With His Motorcycle, Driver Arrested And Charged With Felony Driving Offense

Bob Barry Jr. died after a car collided with his motorcycle.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the longtime Oklahoma sportscaster Bob Barry Jr. died Saturday afternoon while driving his motorcycle close to his home. The car hit Barry’s motorcycle after making a U-turn, leaving Barry with fatal injuries. Bob ultimately died from injuries to his head, trunk, arms, and legs, Sport Act reports.

The driver of the car, Castillo-Gutierrez, was charged Tuesday with a felony driving offense that holds a maximum sentence of five years in prison. At the time of the crash, Castillo-Gutierrez tested positive for cocaine, and was arrested for first-degree manslaughter, drug possession, making an illegal U-turn, and driving without a license. Castillo-Gutierrez is a Mexican national, and was in the country illegally. He has previously been deported on three separate occasions.

Barry is being mourned by his family members, friends, and fans. He, apparently, touched many lives, and several people have come forward to share their fondest memories of the sportscaster.

“His [Barry’s] kindness, compassion and generosity was only a part of what made him such an incredibly special husband, father, friend and professional,” Bill Khourie shared to NewsOK, recalling the first time he met Bob when he offered to emcee Khourie’s late son’s memorial banquet fund raiser without compensation.

“When my wife and I heard the news Saturday, like so many thousands, we were crushed,” Khourie added. “Even thou we only got to meet and spend time with him on the one occasion, we felt like we lost a loved one. Yes, you are correct, Berry, the condolences offered by thousands were perhaps for ourselves as well. He may have departed our Earthly life, but his incredible spirit, special smile and kindness to all will continue to loom larger than ever as he and Bob Sr. are broadcasting to a new audience.”

Carlton Houston, the KFOR News Director, also released a statement praising Bob for his work and personality.

“Bob loved his family, and he loved Oklahoma. We would just ask that everyone say a prayer for his wife Gina and his family at this difficult time.”

Bob Barry Jr. is survived by his wife Gina, and their four children.
