‘Walking Dead’ Spoof: ‘The Walking Deceased’ Comes To VOD And DVD [Video]

Just in case you couldn’t get enough of zombies and shows such as AMC’s The Walking Dead, In the Flesh, and iZombie, here’s a parody movie to keep you entertained: The Walking Deceased.

Judging from the video, The Walking Deceased, at bare minimum, pokes fun at Rick Grimes and The Walking Dead, Warm Bodies, Zombieland, Zombie Strippers, and the annual zombie walk.

Here’s the synopsis, according to IMDb.

“When a police officer wakes up in a hospital to find out he is in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, he will do anything to find his family, even sacrifice Twitter.”

The Walking Deceased is brought to you by Signature Entertainment, and the cast includes Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie, Horrible Bosses), Tim Ogletree (Supernatural Activity), Troy Ogletree (Supernatural Activity), Sophia Taylor Ali (CSI: Miami, Melissa & Joey), and Joey Oglesby (Prison Break). Scott Dow directs The Walking Deceased from a screenplay written by Tim Ogletree.

According to Flickering Myth, the group of zombie apocalypse survivors in The Walking Deceased are on the hunt for the elusive Safe Haven Ranch, a place that may protect them from zombies but may not be as welcoming as first suspected.

For every successful movie, a parody movie seems to follow close behind. Mostly these movies are interested in a captive audience, an already established fan base, thus an almost guaranteed revenue outlet. However, many parodies fall short of both giving the established fan base what they want and a humorous take on the original movie or genre. It will be interesting to see if The Walking Deceased can deliver on both these fronts when it is released to VOD and DVD next month.

IGN reviewed The Walking Deceased recently, and while they think the movie falls into the “bad spoof” category, it is, at least, more honest than some of the more well-known parody movies.

“I’ll take an earnest, on-the-cheap parody movie over big budget Seltzer/Friedberg pop culture masturbation any day. Those films weren’t so much parodies as they were excuses to quickly capitalize on whatever celebrity or viral video was hot that year. They were meant to have zero shelf life. The Walking Deceased however, despite being shoddy, has better legs since it’s an actual attempt to zing the genre.”

The Walking Deceased will be released as VOD on July 6. The DVD release date is July 13.
