Woman EMTs Reportedly Accused Of ‘Faking’ Symptoms Dies From Ectopic Pregnancy After Waiting Two Hours For Paramedics

Sabrina Stevenson waited nearly two hours for paramedics to arrive but, unfortunately, her cry for help wasn’t initially taken seriously. Due to lack of medical attention, the 28-year-old ultimately died of an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy. Now, her grieving mother wants justice.

According to Mirror Online, Sabrina’s mother, Dawn Coventry, insist her daughter was allegedly labeled a “drama queen” by EMTs, who believed she was “faking symptoms.” Prior to her death, Stevenson reportedly suffered abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting but, since her condition was undiagnosed, apparently paramedics didn’t believe her suffering was plausible.

Her mother recently recounted how paramedics reportedly speculated that her daughter was faking. It has been reported that even after the paramedics arrived, they did not immediately transport her to a local hospital. Instead, they caused yet another delay due to difficulty assessing her condition. Once they finally prepared to move her to an ambulance, she reportedly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

“I believe paramedics thought she had been on drugs or was just hungover. They said she was just being a drama queen. One went to put a tube down her throat and told her flatmate, ‘We’ll know if she is faking as she won’t let us do it.’ By that point, she was almost in cardiac arrest. For me as a mother, it is horrific to know how she was treated in her final hours. The inquest proved that if they had acted properly then we would still have Sabrina with us today.”

At 10:40 p.m., Sabrina arrived at the hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead less than an hour later, at approximately 11:24 p.m. The coroner’s report also shed light on Sabrina’s condition and proves she definitely wasn’t faking.

According to the Daily Mail, Dr. Richard Brittain, an Assistant Coroner for Inner London North, reported that a ruptured ectopic pregnancy was the cause of death, and time was of the essence. If she had received medical attention in a timely fashion, an emergency surgery could have been life-saving. However, he does not place full blame on the paramedics, as a number of other factors contributed to her death.

“A series of inappropriate decisions, missed opportunities, clinical failures, and system failures, resulted in delayed transportation to the hospital several hours later, at a point when she was in a state of cardiac arrest,” Dr. Brittain explained. “I heard evidence that, had Sabrina arrived in the emergency department prior to cardiac arrest, it is likely she would have received operative treatment. This would, on balance of probabilities, have saved her life,” he revealed.

“There were multiple factors which added to the complexity and difficulty of transporting Sabrina to the hospital. With that in mind, it is my judgment none of the individual failings in isolation meet the test required to find neglect. However, cumulatively, I judge that these failures do amount to neglect which, together with the consequences of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, caused Sabrina’s death.”

Sabrina’s untimely death has sparked a heated debate in regards to accountability. Many blame the paramedics for their carelessness because they allegedly belittled her condition.
