Kate Upton and Justin Verlander are seemingly the perfect couple. They cook for each other, they go to sporting events together, they smile, and seemingly live the life.
But even relationships like theirs can hit their low points. And Verlander recently admitted to one such moment that truly tested both his and Kate’s resolve: falling victim to the celebrity nude photo hack that released intimate naked photos of several famous actresses, including Jennifer Lawrence, Gabrielle Union, and, of course, Upton herself, across the internet.
In a new interview with Forbes, Justin commented on the incident, revealing very little except to acknowledge it was tough.
“I grinded through it… Kate’s there a lot for me,” the Detroit Tigers pitcher admitted, alluding to the fact that a hack of anyone’s private info would cause stress. “We’re just normal people. You know, normal relationship–believe it or not.”
Well, not completely normal. Verlander did admit to a “barn full” of expensive cars in the interview that included an Aston Martin DBS, an Aston Martin Vanquish, an Audi R8 GT, a Ferrari F12berlinetta, a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Lamborghini Aventador, a Maserati, and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. He’s also hoping to host Saturday Night Live at some point — a dream of his that could quite possibly come true one day. Phone hacking aside, these things don’t exactly fall under the category of normal.
Meanwhile, Kate Upton also recently commented for the first time on the “Fappening,” as it was dubbed, telling the Standard a couple of months back that the nude photo hacks had her contemplating total removal from social media.
“It was very difficult,” Upton told the magazine. “It’s an invasion of my privacy and it’s not OK. It’s illegal. People don’t have a right to look at those photos or to judge them… I fantasize about deleting my social media accounts. But I can’t.”
As one of the most recognizable figures out there today, Kate’s wish, as she realizes, is impossible. She’s been on the cover of Sports Illustrated, was the face of Guess, and most recently the lead in a series of Game of War ads that permeated the national media, both online and on TV.
As reported by the Inquisitr, Upton will be handing the Game of War mantle over to another celebrity often captured on social media: Mariah Carey. Upton recently gave her full endorsement of Carey to TMZ when asked about the switch.
Hopefully, with less time in the spotlight, Justin Verlander and Kate Upton can continue to enjoy their “normal” relationship in private, free of any more unwanted publicity.
