‘Sweet Valley High’ Reboot Might Be Happening

Nostalgia for the 90s seems like it’s here to stay. First, we got a spin-off show from Boy Meets World, then Netflix whipped out Fuller House, and now it looks like we’re getting a reboot for Sweet Valley High.

According to E!, the original twin actresses are behind a hopeful reboot of Sweet Valley High. Twins Brittany and Cynthia Daniel were stars of the TV show, which was loosely based on the book series.

Brittany Daniel spoke with E! at the premiere of her new film, Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, to talk about the possibility of a Sweet Valley High reboot. “There is some talk right now. We’re actually going to have some conversations with Francine.” Francine is, of course, the author of the popular book series.

The official synopsis is as follows.

“Jessica Wakefield is used to getting what she wants—at school, with her friends, and especially with boys—and she’ll stop at nothing to get it. Elizabeth Wakefield is used to letting her twin sister have her way. There’s not much that’s worth fighting her over—lost earrings can be replaced, petty problems can be resolved, and rampant rumors can be doused like a fire. But when it comes to Todd Wilkins, Liz isn’t so sure she should step aside and make way for Jessica. This time, Jessica Wakefield is going to have some competition—from her own sister.”

Brittany and Cynthia portrayed the Wakefield sisters from 1994 to 1997. We don’t exactly know how this reboot will work considering that the twins, now 39, are out of high school. Perhaps the reboot will now center around their children in High School?

Brittany told E!,”That series means so much to my sister and I and we want to bring that to our kids and the next generation. So it’s only natural for us to want to bring it back.”

While Brittany has been acting steadily since the series ended, her sister, Cynthia, has left the business aside from one minor guest appearance in 2002. Of the series, Cynthia said, “[Sweet Valley High] seems like a lifetime ago,. For me, personally, because I’m not in the business so much anymore, I’m shocked that people still remember it. It’s amazing how many people still come up to us about it.”

It seems like the fan base is still going strong.
