Ryanair Flight From Warsaw To Oslo Delayed Due To Bomb Scare

Ryanair, the so-called “cheap” airline, is often in the news for various controversial stories, but this time it could have been potentially far more serious due to a bomb scare. News reports on the incident have been widely varied, with Ryanair saying the flight never actually took off and others saying it had to make an emergency landing.

A flight from Warsaw to Oslo was delayed Thursday due to reports received that there were explosives on the plane. However, the bomb scare has apparently turned out to be merely a hoax.

While Ryanair are apparently saying the plane never took off, reports in the media said that firefighters in Warsaw has stated that the Ryanair plane, with 160 passengers traveling from Oslo in Norway, made an emergency landing at Modlin Airport in Warsaw due to suspicions that there were explosives on board.

According to a spokesman, 13 units of firefighters assisted with the safe landing Thursday, and no one was hurt in the incident. He added that explosives experts were checking the plane and that all passengers were safely evacuated. Apparently Modlin is an auxiliary airport in Warsaw which is only used by Ryanair.

According to the Telegraph’s blow-by-blow report, despite Ryanair’s statement that the plane never took off from Warsaw, Polish television networks were also confused about the incident with reports saying that the plane landed at 8:15 a.m. local time this morning. The local television reports stated that the police had finished checking the aircraft and all luggage for an explosive device and had found nothing dangerous.

Despite all the confusion, the Independent is reporting that a 48-year-old man has been detained by Warsaw police after they traced the hoax bomb scare call to his home. Mariusz Mrozek, spokesman for the police said, “This was an irresponsible prank.”

According to the Independent, Ryanair said the jet was still on the tarmac at Warsaw’s Modlin airport waiting to board when the hoax bomb scare call came in. The airport was then temporarily closed to incoming and outbound flights as a safety precaution.

The Independent quoted Edyta Adamus, spokeswoman for Warsaw police as saying the police bomb disposal officers had conducted checks on the aircraft and found no explosives on board.

Ryanair released a press statement apologizing to the passengers on the outbound Oslo flight for any inconvenienced caused by the hoax bomb scare call.

“Warsaw Modlin Airport received an anonymous call that there was an explosive device on a Ryanair aircraft due to take off from Modlin to Oslo at 08.40hrs local.

“The airport security authorities ordered an immediate inspection of the aircraft (which hadn’t yet boarded) and closed the airport to inbound arrivals as a security precaution.

“Warsaw Modlin believes this is a hoax call and expect the security sweep to confirm this fact.

“They expect to release the aircraft and reopen the airport shortly. Ryanair sincerely apologizes to the customers of the outbound Oslo flight for any inconvenience caused by this hoax call.”

The Ryanair spokesperson also denied the previous reports that there was an emergency landing, saying this was not the case and that the plane was still on the tarmac preparing to leave when the bomb scare call was received.

In other Ryanair news, the Inquisitr recently reported the story of the passenger who changed his name and bought a new passport, as it was cheaper than amending the incorrect details on his ticket with the “cheap airline.”
