Man Records Doctors During Medical Procedure: What Was Said Made Him File A Lawsuit

A man from Reston, Virgina pushed record on his cell phone before having a colonoscopy so that he would remember his post-op care. Little did he realize that he actually recorded the doctors and nurses during the whole procedure, and when he played the recording back, he was shocked by what he heard.

The man’s anesthesiologist, Tiffany M. Ingham, 42, made some really inappropriate remarks, clearly not thinking that her patient would ever find out. According to Opposing Views, however, the man did find out. He was on his way home when he decided to play the recording back.

“Ingham was recorded saying, ‘after five minutes of talking to you in pre-op, I wanted to punch you in the face and man you up a little bit.’ After an assistant noticed a rash, Ingham said she shouldn’t touch it because she might get ‘some syphilis on your arm or something,’ then added, ‘it’s probably tuberculosis in the penis, so you’ll be all right.'”

The incident occurred in 2013, and the man — identified only as D.B. — was just awarded $500,000 last week in a lawsuit that he filed shortly after hearing the recordings back in 2013.

According to Us Weekly, Dr. Ingham is no longer worked at that practice, and it is unknown if she is still working in her field.

“Following a three-day trial last week, Dr. Ingham was ordered to pay [the man] $500,000. Her practice, Aisthesis in Bethesda, Md., is ordered to pay $50,000 in punitive damages. Ingham no longer works at the practice, and is said to have moved to Florida.”

The man was suing for $1.75 million, but was not even awarded half. Do you think he should have received more than $500,000?

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Soloman Shah, 48, was the gastroenterologist who performed the colonoscopy. Although the doctor also made some unacceptable comments, Shah was dismissed from the case.

“‘As long as it’s not Ebola, you’re okay,’ Shah was captured saying on the patient’s recording, when referring to the rash. Shah also did not discourage Ingham from her ‘comments or actions,’ which included writing on the man’s chart that he had hemorrhoids, when he did not, according to court documents.”

This story has made many people wonder what is actually said about them while they are in surgery or under anesthesia. Would you want to hear what your doctors were saying while you were under?
