Jaden Smith Explains Batman Suit He Wore To Prom: ‘I Needed To Protect Everyone There’

Jaden Smith has explained the white Batman suit he wore to a Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding and again to a prom, saying that he “needed to protect everyone there” and obviously thought the Dark Knight was the one to do it.

The 16-year-old son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about the white Batman suit he so famously wore at Kimye’s ceremony in 2014 in a new interview, saying it was partly for fun and partly out of duty to protect everyone from the forces of evil.

“I wore the Batman suit to heighten my experience at the wedding and prom which was fun,” Smith told GQ.

“But also at the wedding I felt as though I needed to protect everyone there and needed to have the proper gear to do so,” he added.

The interview touched on Jaden’s unique sense of style, which the teenage actor said is all about self-expression and changing things up as often as possible.

“I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way because everyday it changes how I feel about the world and myself, but I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a super hero, but don’t have to necessarily wear super hero costumes everyday.”

Though he has made a name for himself through his odd fashion choices including the Batman suit, Jaden Smith said he doesn’t want to be known as a one-trick pony.

“I think they’re cool and I used to wear them a lot more when I was a little younger. At 13 I used to call myself the king of animal print, because I would wear them almost everyday, but then I became more conscious and realized I didn’t want to be known as someone who wears animal skins only, so I switched to black.”

Jaden explained that he has a diverse set of style icons, including: Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman, and Kanye West. That would certainly explain his flair for the superhero dramatic and ability to seize attention with his fashion choices. Though he may have been ridiculed a bit for the fashion choice, the Batman suit ultimately worked out for Jaden Smith. He was named as one of the “20 Most Stylish Men Alive” by GQ, and both Kimye’s wedding and the prom this year went down without any attacks from the Joker. Mission accomplished, Jaden.
