You Make The Call — Sharon Green Accuses Occasion Cakes Of Putting Distasteful Image On Her Child’s Cake

Sharon Green ordered a cake for her daughter Thalia’s christening.

It was to have teddy bears and baby blocks celebrating this important time in Thalia’s young three-year-old life. According to Sharon, what she received from United Kingdom-based Occasion Cakes left her shocked and disgusted.

What left Sharon outraged was where Occasion Cakes chose to place the teddy bears creases.

You can see what the bear looked like here.

Sharon claims that these teddy bears actually have vaginas, and she wanted a complete refund for the dollars she spent on the cake that has now ruined her daughters special occasion. She reached out to the baker over the Occasion Cakes Facebook page to express her distaste.

“I find this detailing offensive and completely inappropriate to include on my daughter’s three-year-old christening cake.

“Please contact me on…to discuss this matter as I am appalled by the condition the cake has been given to me in.

“Find attached photographs (pictured above) of the cake for your attention.”

While it can be seen in the link where the placement of the “crease” is, Occasion Bakery did respond to the claims that those were in fact not vaginas on the cake.

“The small bear on top of the cake is exactly that — a teddy bear — and the crease on its stomach is supposed to represent the seam where the bear is sewn together.

“We have been making girl and boy teddies this way for 30 years and no-one has ever drawn such a bizarre, and, quite frankly, distasteful, connection.

“Also we made every effort to sort out this customer’s ‘problem’. A member of our staff at the Wigan shop even came back after closing for the night to give her edible flowers to put on the cake to cover up that part of the teddy ornament.”

It should be noted that Sharon Green did not contact the shop about this issue until the day after she picked the cake up according to the Bolton News who spoke with her. She acknowledge the fact she did received the flowers to cover the place in question, but it did almost more harm than good. Sharon claimed that the guests at the party kept moving the flowers and poking fun at the cake.

“It is not just me who thought this, it was a talking point at the christening — everyone was commenting on it.”

As with most incidents like this, the story has been picked up by a number of high profile outlets such as Cosmopolitan. Do you think Sharon Green has an argument, or do you side with Occasion Cakes and feel she may need to get her mind out of the gutter? Let us know below.
