Is 5G Mobile Connection Really Coming In 2020?

Is 5G mobile connection coming in 2020?

According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), 5G mobile connection is the next big thing. ITU has created an official 5G plan that will be developed over the next five years to bring us faster cellular data than ever.

We have been entertaining rumors of 5G data in 2020 for quite awhile now, but the truth of those rumors has been largely questioned. Very few doubt that it will happen, but tech professionals are very skeptical of the short timeframe.

But now that the ITU is on board, it’s more likely than ever. Since they have stepped in with a plan that will actually work to promote 5G data, the future of increased mobile internet speed seems certain.

What Can We Expect with IMT-2020?

When technology introduced 4G, it meant faster networks and a much wider signal reach. 5G is projected to double those elements with markedly faster speed, extremely low latency, and wider mobile connections.

Will 5G Really Be Coming in 2020?

The switch to a larger, faster network than ever before won’t be easy. It will take a significant amount of work and developed technology to create a product that will be able to receive a 5G connection even some of the time.

Technology will need to make some quick improvements. This upgrade will require a set of higher frequency bands, which don’t travel as far as the ones we use now. The 5G network will require a thicker network of towers to offset the new connection. It could take several years to build all of the towers necessary to support the data speed.

This is the main reason that experts anticipate the 5G connection taking at least 5 years to perfect. It may be even longer than that. In fact, rumors of IMT-2020 have been around since early 2012, but it took a good three years for the planning alone to develop.

Despite skepticism from a large sector of the tech world, the ITU is extremely confident in their plan for faster networks all over the world. The 5G plan states as follows.

“ITU has a rich history in the development of radio interface standards for mobile communications. The framework of standards for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), encompassing IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced, spans the 3G and 4G industry perspectives and will continue to evolve as 5G with ‘IMT-2020’.”

The ITU official name for 5G will reflect the date that the union wants to unveil the fastest mobile data plan ever: IMT-2020. Their decision to officially name the 5G network after the year it’s intended to be released shows ITU’s confidence in the development.

According to this new and improved plan, we can essentially have a stronger hope that 5G mobile connection will be coming in 2020, but it’s a little early to tell if it will make the five-year deadline just yet.
