‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Will Be ‘Incredible,’ Cast Member Talks About Secrecy

As if fans were not excited already, a Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast member says the hugely awaited blockbuster “will be incredible.”

We got a taste of it in the teaser and full-length trailer, which left fans — especially those of the original trilogy — speechless. The music, the lightsabers, the classic characters, and everything else that we saw was simply fantastic, and someone who is intimately involved in the film agrees.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Lost) tells us how his friend and Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams called him up to be cast in the film. To say that Grunberg — who reportedly plays an X-Wing pilot and has a three-film contract — was excited would be an understatement.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor says that as is usual with Abrams: the filming was ultra secretive and even established actors like Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher couldn’t take the script home to learn their lines. Even though Grunberg can’t share any plot details, he says the script has not leaked to media outlets despite concerted efforts to get inside information (Abrams knows how to do things).

Grunberg recalled when he got the call from his good friend J.J. Abrams after he accepted the job and what he heard on the other side of the line.

“It’s true, I’m doing Star Wars and you can stop begging me, yes, I want you to be in this movie,” Abrams said.

To Grunberg, this was “an absolute dream come true.”

“I have been such a fan of all the actors and everything about Star Wars…Some people may not have loved some of the movies, but it’s a whole world you can’t deny how super compelling and awesome it is, and I can’t believe I’m part of it.”

“Like there were moments when J.J. would yell, ‘Cut’, and then come over to me and go, ‘Are you f***** kidding me? Did that just happen? Did I just pan from C-3PO to R2-D2 to Han Solo and then to you?’ I spent seven weeks in London and it was heaven. And it’s crazy cause usually I’m the first person that J.J. calls to bounce ideas off. This one is so top secret, and so on lockdown, that all I can do is ask him, ‘How’s it going?’ and he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m really happy” So I know if he’s happy it’s just gonna be incredible.”

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor also talks about how “unbelievable” the new cast members are and “so well cast.” But despite the fact that he’s an insider and part of the film, Grunberg has not seen the final product but talked about the secrecy that surrounds the production.

“We got our script pages, only the scenes that we were in. Not even what was being shot that day! It was all on red paper so we couldn’t copy it or take a picture of it. And then we had to give the script pages back at the end of the day. And we didn’t get them the day before to take them home and learn them—Carrie Fisher and I were talking about it several times, like, ‘This is crazy! An actor does not get to prepare on this movie.'”

Like many Star Wars fans, Grunberg can’t get enough and says he watched The Force Awakens trailer “20 times.” Are you excited yet?
