‘Hawkgirl’ TV Show Coming? What You Need To Know About The Rumored Spin-Off

Rumor has it that the DC superheroine Hawkgirl just might be getting her own TV show. It would be welcome news for comic fans who may be dismayed that Supergirl is the only female DC with her own series at the moment. Like Supergirl and Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl is one of the better known and well-regarded women heroes in DC.

The possibility that she may be getting a chance to shine has generated quite a bit of buzz.

But before you buy into the hype, there are a few important things you need to know about the reality of a Hawkgirl TV show. SpoilerTV has reportedly learned that the CW project is in “very early stages of development.”

“If The CW decides to move forward with it, it will most likely bypass the pilot stage and get a straight to series order.”

SpoilerTV said that it wasn’t certain whether or not a Hawkgirl TV show would take place before or after the events of Legends of Tomorrow, the show on which the character will debut. Since Arrow has already made quite a bit of use of flashbacks in its first three seasons, there’s a possibility that something similar could be done with Hawkgirl.

In fact, it might prove a necessary tool to help flesh out the back story of this version of the character. That is, should a TV show actually materialize at some point. Gary Collinson at Flickering Myth suggested that it could be wise for DC fans to take talk of a Hawkgirl show with a “pinch of salt.”

“It does seem very early to be talking about a Hawkgirl spinoff, so it’s probably worth taking this with a pinch of salt for the time being. Still, The CW clearly has ambitions of further extending its DC output, meaning that a Hawkgirl series is certainly not beyond the realm of possibility somewhere down the line.”

The CW and, by some extent DC, knows that a bright light is being shined on the treatment of women in the film and television industry at present. And as a large number of the viewing audience happens to be women, the pressure to introduce a greater number of female-led shows has increased substantially.

While such fans are still hoping that Wonder Woman (or Girl) can appear on the small screen in the future, it’s possible that Hawkgirl may prove to be a worthy substitute — or stalling tactic.
