Jonathan Broxton Ties Dubious MLB Record, Pegs Two Consecutive Batters To End Game [Video]

Jonathan Broxton is in the MLB records, but it isn’t for something that he’ll want to remember. Broxton hit two consecutive batters last night during the Oakland Athletics’ 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

According to Big League Stew, only 56 games have ended with a walkoff hit-by-pitch and Braxton is the first pitcher in over 45-years to hit two consecutive players to end a game.

Broxton, who started the inning with a strikeout, said:

“It started out good but I just didn’t have it.”

After throwing two traditional walks, Broxton hit Oakland rookie Yoenis Cespedes to load the bases. Broxton then hit Jonny Gomes to walk in the winning run and end the 12th inning. Oddly enough, it wasn’t the first time that Gomes has ended the game by getting hit by a pitch.

Gomez is the first player in more than half a century to win two games by getting hit by a pitch. Gomes was hit last August and gave the Washington Nationals the game winning run over the Phillies. After the game Gomes said:

”Been there, done that. You can hit me four times if we win.”

Here’s a video of Jonathan Broxton hitting Jonny Gomes to lose the game last night.
