GM Recalls 2009: Which Vehicles Are Affected?

General Motors is recalling about 1.5 million vehicles over a problem that could result in an engine fire. The GM recalls were announced Monday afternoon.

The GM recalls affect Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. The cars are said to have a risk of engine oil leakage that could spark a fire within the plastic spark plug wire channel, which could in turn spread flames further into the engine. The leaking could occur during “hard braking,” GM says.

The affected models are:

• 1997 – 2003 Buick Recal
• 2000 – 2003 Chevy Impala
• 1998 – 1999 Chevy Lumina
• 1998 – 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo
• 1998 – 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue
• 1997 – 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix

If you have one of the models listed in the GM recalls list, you’re advised to see your dealer as soon as possible. They’ll install new spark plug wire retainers, which should correct the problem.
