Kevin Love Concussion: Timberwolves’ Forward Suffers Mild Concussion After Elbow to the Head [Video]

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love suffered an ugly looking injury during the first quarter of his team’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

ESPN writes that just eight minutes into the game, Love sustained a mild concussion and neck strain after being struck in the head by an inadvertent elbow from Nuggets’ center JaVale McGee.

On the play, McGee caught a pass in the lane and was turning to shoot when his elbow struck Love squarely on the side of the head. Love immediately went to the ground and had to be escorted off the court by medical personnel.

Love had missed all five of his shots in the first quarter before being knocked out of the game.

“It was pretty bad, but hopefully he’ll be all right,” said guard J.J. Barea, who had a career-high 15 assists in a 113-107 loss to the Nuggets. “As soon as he got hit, I knew he was out. He was talking, but he wasn’t all there, though.”

Kevin Love is the NBA’s top scorer since the All-Star break, averaging nearly 29 points. Not only that, but he’s among the league leaders in rebounding, free throws made and minutes.

“Kevin is our go-to guy,” said Derrick Williams, who provided spark of the Wolves’ bench, scoring 27 points. “He’s the heart of our team.”

With their loss against the Nuggets, Minnesota extended its season-high losing streak to seven games. Love’s concussion is the latest blow to the injury-riddled Timberwolves who were already missing Luke Ridnour, who is sidelined with a sprained right ankle and rookie point guard Ricky Rubio, who tore his ACL earlier in the season.

According to CBSSports, Kevin Love, who stayed overnight in a Denver hospital for observation, has to go through the NBA’s mandated concussion policy tests in order to play again.

The Wolves next game is Thursday night, which he would appear unlikely for.
