Tyler Perry Selling His Home With Eyes On Something Bigger

Tyler Perry is officially on the move, and he is aiming big. No, the entertainment mogul is not looking at going to Hollywood. His movies seldom go there, but Tyler Perry is all Atlanta. The news that he plans to build a larger home in Atlanta proves that he will always have the southern city as his home.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Tyler Perry’s home is selling for a whopping $25 million.

Perry has thrown several gatherings at his home. He has played the host for many of the world’s who’s who, including other high-profile celebrities and astute politicians. The 35,000-square-foot home sits on a hill right along the Chattahoochee River. It has plenty of amenities that would allow anyone who can afford to purchase it to stay at home for many of life’s pleasures. His home is also not far from Tyler Perry Studios.

Typically when you hear about a celebrity selling their home, the immediate assumption is that they are losing money and need a way to recoup their losses. This is not the case with Tyler Perry. Perry, once homeless, sleeping in his car while trying to put on plays, has a net worth of $400 million. His movies all do well at the box office. Given how much of a budget Tyler Perry allows for his films, there is always a sizable profit being made.

The Tyler Perry machine does not end there.

His nighttime soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots is doing well with a dedicated cult following. His other shows, For Better or For Worse, If Loving You Is Wrong, and Love Thy Neighbor are getting strong ratings as well. They have all aided in getting viewers to tune into the OWN channel, or the Oprah Winfrey Network for those who are not familiar with the station.

Hurting for money, Tyler Perry is not. He is still very much active in acting in film and playing his beloved character Madea on stage.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Tyler Perry is going to purchase the 475 acre Fort McPherson. Fort McPherson is a former Army base in Atlanta. It is Perry’s plans to rebuild much of the land and turn it into a movie studio. The other portions of Fort McPherson will become an area dedicated for a variety of shops, office buildings, and housing. The $75 million appraisal price for Fort McPherson will be partially offset by the selling of Tyler Perry’s home.
