There was no jackpot winner in the last drawing on June 16 (8, 19, 26, 56, 67 MB 14), so the jackpot increased to $44 million. There were over one million non-jackpot prizes given away on Tuesday night, but there were no instant millionaires. To win the $1 million non-jackpot Mega Millions prize, a ticket must match all five white balls (no Mega Ball).
There hasn’t been a jackpot winner since June 2, when one lucky ticket holder in Illinois won $260 million. According to a previous report from the Inquisitr, the winning ticket was purchased at the Super Mercado Imelda supermarket in Blue Island. The winner has yet to come forward to claim the prize.
Wondering how much you will take home if you are lucky enough to win tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot? According to USA Mega, the lump sum payment would be $19,875,000 after federal taxes. State taxes are also taken out of the check, in addition to any money owed to the federal government or for past-due child support.
Winners who chose the 30-year annuity option will receive a check for approximately $1.1 million per year after federal taxes, and before state taxes. According to the Mega Millions website, there is a five percent increase added every year to “help protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power.” The first payment is made shortly after the winning ticket is verified by the state lottery headquarters.
Mega Millions tickets can be purchased up to 15 minutes prior to the 11 p.m. ET drawings on Tuesdays and Fridays, although some lottery retailers have earlier cutoff dates. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased in 43 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Lottery players can also choose to pay an extra $1 for the Megaplier feature. Accoridng to the official Mega Millions website, this option will increase non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times, depending on the Megaplier number that is drawn.
