Leonardo DiCaprio Joins Forces With Mark Ruffalo For ‘100%’ Clean Energy Campaign

In a bid to improve the efficiency of our everyday life as well as reducing our impact upon the environment, Leonardo DiCaprio has teamed up with long-time environmental advocate Mark Ruffalo in order to promote their new clean energy campaign, “100%,” armed with the motto “100 percent for the 100 percent”.

DiCaprio’s goal is to use the “100%” campaign to widen access to clean energy resources by raising awareness of the massive benefits of the scheme and aims to make the technology more affordable for both domestic and national usage. In a press conference held yesterday, Leonardo emphasized how increased use of clean energy technology would vastly improve our lifestyle and economy.

DiCaprio addressed the crowd wholeheartedly in favour of the project, saying, “This is a grass-roots people’s movement, but the ambition of this movement is absolutely revolutionary. Clean energy grows local economies.”

As the “100%” campaign would suggest, Leonardo certainly does his part in his own time to raise awareness for the impact of climate change on local communities as well as animal populations across the world. DiCaprio’s Twitter account, on which the cover image is that of solar panels, has rapidly become a trove of resources as Leonardo shares dozens of articles in order to use his A-List fame as a platform for change.


While DiCaprio has shown long-standing support for environmental issues as well as animal conservation, Leonardo’s campaign co-founder, Mark Ruffalo, is recognized as one of the most vocal supporters of the movement in the celebrity world. Best known for his portrayal of the Hulk in the Avengers franchise, Ruffalo was even rumoured to have been placed on an FBI terrorist watch list after scheduling multiple screenings of controversial movie Gasland, in which director Josh Fox documents the impacts drilling for natural gas had in local communities of Pennsylvania.

Ruffalo addressed the crowd that gathered for the event, and alongside DiCaprio referred to the rampant use of non-renewable resources as a “series threat.”

“This is really mankind’s greatest threat, and it should take some serious problem solving on all of our parts. And we don’t really have to give up anything to do it!… We will be collecting the sun and the wind that falls on us every single day.”

The event hosted by DiCaprio and Ruffalo was held at a community garden in New York City. Guests were entertained by musicians and dancers, and in the spirit of the campaign, solar energy was used to fuel the event in the form of food served from solar-powered pizza vans as well as access to solar power phone-charging stations. Both DiCaprio and Ruffalo made speeches and mingled with supporters of the campaign that received informational fliers, booklets, and even temporary tattoos.


The endorsement of movie stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo is a huge step in the right direction for all clean energy campaigns. The global fame Wolf of Wall Street star DiCaprio commands brings a monumental platform on which issues of the local and economic impact of clean energy may be discussed by his support alone. DiCaprio and Ruffalo certainly make an incredible duo to break down the barriers preventing their goal of 100 percent for the 100 percent.
